SAG — BEE PROTECTION LAW

Resolution 7,068/2024 — Notification of Bee-Toxic Pesticide Applications

Pollinator Protection — Bee Protection Law

This regulation requires anyone applying pesticides that are toxic or moderately toxic to bees to notify beekeepers at least 48 hours in advance located in the area of influence near their property, through a verifiable means.

January 26, 2026

Pesticides labeled as toxic to bees

April 26, 2026

Pesticides labeled as moderately toxic

How does the application notification work?
  • Notify at least 48 hours in advance
  • Verifiable means: email, SMS, or in-person written notice
  • Inform beekeepers in the area of influence of the property
  • Time restriction: apply during low bee activity (early morning or dusk)
  • Responsibility falls on the applicator of the pesticide
  • Independent from the Ministry of Health notification
SAG does not perform the notifications. Beekeeper contact information can be found at cpa.sag.gob.cl (requires Chilean citizen digital ID).
SIPEC Apiary — Apiary registry

For the notification system to work correctly, each beekeeper must register and declare their apiaries in SIPEC Apiary, keeping their hive locations and contact information up to date.

Water Use and Monitoring Regulations

Water use in Chile is regulated by the General Directorate of Water Resources (DGA). Holders of water usage rights must comply with two complementary legal instruments that establish the obligation to measure, record, and transmit their water extractions.

DGA — Regulation 1

Exempt Resolution No. 1238 — Surface Water Monitoring

Technical requirements for water telemetry

Establishes the technical requirements and protocols that flow and level measurement and data transmission systems for surface water must meet to be valid before the DGA.

What this resolution regulates
  • DGA-approved communication protocols
  • Format and structure of transmitted data
  • Minimum transmission frequency (every 15 min)
  • Precision requirements for flow meters and sensors
  • Calibration and certification procedures
  • Outage management and data recovery
Applies to all surface water intakes that must report to the DGA.
DGA — Regulation 2

Decree 53 — Surface Water Measurement Obligation

Obligation to install equipment and transmit extractions in real time

Decree 53 requires holders of surface water usage rights to install measurement devices at their intakes and automatically transmit their extraction data to the DGA.

Obligations of the water rights holder
  • Install an approved flow meter or level sensor
  • Record extraction every 15 minutes
  • Transmit data in real time to the DGA
  • Keep equipment calibrated and operational
  • Report daily and monthly volumes
  • Maintain accessible data history
Non-compliance may result in sanctions, fines, or the revocation of water usage rights.

How are Decree 53 and Resolution No. 1238 related?
Decree 53 — "The what"

Defines who is required to measure and transmit, and the deadlines to do so.

Res. No. 1238 — "The how"

Specifies the technical standards, protocols, and approved equipment to comply with Decree 53.

The Fitotrak Irrigation Module covers both DGA regulations

Our system connects with flow meter and intake sensors, records extractions every 15 minutes, and automatically transmits data to the DGA platform using protocols compatible with Resolution No. 1238.
